EvoLovely Designs – Etsy Store Now Open!

Do you ever dream about what life would be like if you were to win the lottery? Would you retire to a tropical island or keep working? In my dream world, I own my own businesses, ideally a ‘home decor’ shop (a la West Elm) and a dance/yoga studio. Not together, mind you, though that would be interesting. I have no desire to just stop working if I were to come into some money. Though there would be a glorious vacation around Europe…and a new car (my 14 year old civic is on it’s last leg).

I obviously haven’t won the lottery lately, and I can’t invest in a brick & mortar store right now. However, I have the next best thing and I am ridiculously thrilled about it. Welcome to my little launch party!

EvoLovely Designs Etsy Shop

I’ve opened my own Etsy store!

EvoLovely Designs has technically been open for about a month so I could work out the kinks and learn my around this new world. I came up with the idea of opening my own Etsy store a few years back, but I kept putting it off, for various reasons. I finally decided to just do it, even if it wasn’t perfect. I kept wanting to have all the answers, but that’s not possible so I’m going to just enjoy the journey. I came up with the name because I kept describing my dream store as a lovely evolution of simple things, handmade designs, and vintage finds. My hope is that even if people don’t buy anything, that they can find something beautiful every time they stop by.

Below are the different sections of the shop, though I’m always coming up with new items to add. Aside from the vintage finds, all items are handmade by me.

BONUS: You guys have always been such an amazing support system for me while I’m on this change of destiny/career journey. If anyone would like to purchase an item in the shop, please use CMD2012 to save 10%. This coupon code will be active through the rest of 2012, use as often as you like. If you like anything, but want different colors, styles, volume…let me know, I’m happy to work with you on a custom order [contact me through Etsy or via email: evolovelydesigns@gmail.com]

String Art Designs

My favorite type of art to make would be string art designs. I find it cathartic to come up with new styles that haven’t been seen yet, and figure out a technique to layer colors and incorporate mixed media. I have so many different ideas bouncing around my head all the time, so they were the obvious item to put in the shop. I have a few new styles going up soon for the holidays as well as fun designs for year round. As with all the items in the shop, new items will be added all the time.

I’ve actually been making jewelry since I was little. I was the little girl that made thread bracelets and walked door to door in my neighborhood selling them for a quarter or a dime. It was my ‘lemonade stand’. I’ve evolved a bit since then, but have continued to make jewelry over the years, selling them in various venues.

Body Scrubs

One part of this process I’ve really enjoyed is finding creative packaging options. This is my favorite. Each body scrub comes in a 8oz Square Mason Jar with a Daisy Cut lid. So when you’re done with the scrub, you can use the jar as a drinking glass. Just wash, pop a straw through the daily lid, and off you go!

Current Fragrances (more coming soon):

French Vanilla Mint

Lime Coconut

Cranberry Clove

Green Tea & Aloe

Tropical Pina Colada

Butt Naked (yes, that’s the fragrance and it’s amazing!)

Home Decor

I’m currently working on a few more items for the home decor section of the shop, including some more office supplies, ombre dish towels, and soy candles.

Sherbert Dahlia Magnets

Vintage Finds

This section will be changing all the time as I find new, fun antiques and vintage items. Right now I have an amazing fabric stamp, but I’m constantly on the look out for new old items.

Guess Who?

They’re baaaccckkk!

…and making themselves right at home. Poor Jake, if it wasn’t for that 90lb lab bouncing around, he’d own this house. Instead he hides on the top of the couch while the lab tries to figure out how he got up there.

The beagles are visiting for a few weeks so it’s a full house over here. Baxter is being a very kind host…so far.

It seems fitting that this weekend will be dedicated to working outside since the puppies will be around. With the the 100+ degree heat lately, the grass in my yard hasn’t done well. Even with watering twice a day, it burned. After a few weeks of trying to keep everything alive, I decided to let it go and find another option.

Lowes carries an impressive artificial grass by SynLawn and they recently started carrying pre-cut rolls that you can install yourself. This is perfect as I don’t want to pay for installation since my grass set up is a little different. If you remember, I have a yard covered with concrete so I’m working with DIY grass planters. I’ve done some research and it should be fairly easy to replace the real (dead) grass with the artificial grass over the weekend. It is a little expensive, but it doesn’t have to be replaced every couple months and doesn’t require water. It should end up saving me money in the long run and look nice year round. I’ll share more next week once it’s done.

I’ve also recently purchased a new toy, a Cuisinart Immersion Hand Blender in Raspberry for a secret little project I’ve been working on lately. I launched the interest list a few days ago, so I guess the secret’s out. I’m currently writing a recipe eBook that will be available in October, I’ll do a separate post to share more. For now, I’ll just say, if you like this apple butter, then you’re going to LOVE what I’m working on.

Oh, and this happened…

They are just too cute (and on sale/clearance).

What are your weekend plans? Anything fun?

A Few Of My Favorite Things This Weekend

I’ve been staring at the screen all day trying to put this past weekend into words. However, my brain stopped working when I was forced into an early morning work call today, so nothing witty is coming to mind. So I’ll simply say that I LOVED this past weekend.

We’ll just zoom past work on Friday, because that is most certainly not awesome…but the project I worked on that night was incredibly awesome. I finally got around to cutting the mats for some art I bought a while back. I’ll do a separate post on these, but all three pieces are different and BEAUTIFUL. I went with a neutral dark grey mat to set off the colors. I can’t wait to show you the finished art wall.

Thank you little puppy for the photo-bomb. I swear, that camera comes out and he just parks his butt right in frame.

Saturday involved a trip down to San Diego to pick up my 5K bib and drinks at a Mexican Restaurant. That Strawberry Margarita was delicious, as were the 3 bowls of chips we ate…ahem…before dinner. Carb loading at it’s finest.

Even though I had my phone in my hand for the entire 5K, I took a grand total of 0 pictures. I was too busy talking to my friend who did the 5K with me. For those keeping tally, that means I get to cross something off the 30 in 30 list. I’ve officially finished a 5K with a friend! Although I was a little bummed that we didn’t get medals, but I suppose the chocolate milk and coconut water was an acceptable replacement.

The rest of my Sunday was spent chatting with my friend and shopping with my mom. By the way, GAP has some really cute workout gear right now (and it’s 30% off online through 8/21/2012).

I picked up this top in pink, but hurry since it looks like they are selling out fast online.

I also picked up a Zoku Quick Pop Maker and Zoku Tool set . Both were on super clearance at JC Penny’s, and by super clearance I mean 50% off.

I spent the night at my parents house this weekend since it was closer to the 5K, and they could look after my dog while I was gone. Aside from getting to see them, there was the added bonus that they have air conditioning since mine is broken (in both my house and car). My puppy thoroughly enjoyed the visit, probably because he didn’t have to sit in front of a fan with a frozen towel on his head like he does at my house.

Today it’s back to the daily grind, but I’m on countdown. Four more days until I get a week off of work! It worked out for me to finally take a vacation. It’s great timing since I haven’t had one for about 9 months and I’m completely burned out. I can’t wait to sleep in and turn off the work phone.

What did you do this weekend?

What I Want Now – Winter Skincare

Living in Southern California, winter is mild. Having lived near the beach most of my life, I had never really experienced a dry skin winter, but things have changed. Moving inland has hampered more than my love for an ocean breeze. I also have some serious dry skin during the winter and it took me the entire cold season last year to figure out the perfect winter skincare routine for me.

In reality, the winters anywhere in So Cal are mild in comparison to other parts of the country. I don’t deal with snow or below freezing temperatures. I never use to be the type of person who changed their skincare routine with the season, I’ve been very lucky to only deal with an occasional breakout. Maybe it’s because I’m almost 30 or maybe it really has something to do with the move inland, I’m not sure. What I do know is that this works for me.

I’ve been washing my face with Cetaphil for years and it’s never let me down.If I don’t have Cetaphil then I’ll use Dove, they are my favorites. I also use a Clairsonic face brush year round, usually only at night. After washing my face, while my skin is still damp I use the Bio Oil, it’s the only thing that stops my face from getting too dry. I also use this year around, but I use it twice a day during the winter months. During the summer I use a lighter sunscreen, but when I need something thicker I always go for Clinique Superdefense, it’s thick but soaks in without feeling greasy.  The only other thing, not listed, is Clinique All About Eyes. I don’t always use it everyday, but I always keep it in my medicine cabinets for the puffy eye days.

1. Clinique Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense Moisturizer Dry Combination $44.50

2. Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser $9

3. Bio Oil Scar Treatment $11

Once a week I use a face scrub in the shower, Khiel’s Pineapple Papaya Scrub is my absolute favorite. It’s very gentle and works miracles. You don’t need a lot to do the job, so usually lasts a long time. I tend to jump from body lotion to body lotion, always looking for a new favorite, but always come back to two. For super dry days I use Vaseline Intensive Rescue; but my usual ‘go to’ winter lotion is Lubriderm Daily Nourishing. I could say it’s for the great formula, but really it’s because the smell reminds me of summer and it isn’t greasy. For the days when I need a little extra moisture for hands or face, I use Josie Maran Argan Oil Stick. It’s easy to carry around, smells great, and works like a charm. I also keep lip balm with me 24/7, but I don’t have a favorite brand. I have them all over the house, and in every purse, so I’ll use whatever is within reach.

4. Khiel’s Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub $28

5. Lubriderm Daily Nourishing Radiance Lotion (with Shea  and Cocoa Butter) $9

6. Josie Maran Argan Oil Moisturizing Stick $22

What are your winter skincare favorites?

Thanksgiving & Black Friday 2011

Where has this past week gone? I feel like I’ve spent the past few days in a dream like state. I never intended to take a break from blogging, but I found myself unexpectedly busy and sleepy. Last week, I worked Mon-Wed, on very little sleep, since things were just incredibly overwhelming to say the least at work. Luckily Wednesday was my last day at work for 12 days!

On Thursday I packed up my dog, a crap load of stuff and drove to my parents house.

They live near a golf course, not on the golf course..just in case you were wondering.

Thanksgiving was pretty low key and filled with excellent food, of which, I have exactly zero pictures. But it was all good, trust me. A few hours later (8pm to be exact) we packed up the car and headed out for our yearly Mother/Daughter Black Friday Shopping tradition.

First up was the local outlet mall which opened at 9pm.

Getting there early means we get front row parking and are able to leave very easily once the crowds descend.

Caffeine was required, in the form of a Cafe Mocha with 2 pumps Chai.

Black Friday Fuel

A few of the favorite stores were…

  • Banana Republic
  • Tommy Hilfiger
  • Calvin Klein
  • PUMA
  • BCBG
  • GAP
  • Fossil
  • Kitchen Gadget Store
  • Cosmetics Store
  • Harry & David
  • and so on…

Around 1am we stopped at Ruby’s and refueled on burgers and fries. We may just be delirious and starving, but these are pretty much the best burgers EVER.

After the outlets we stopped past Macy’s where I lost my mind while standing in a crazy long line. We were told we couldn’t use any of the coupons on our purchase so needless to say, Macy’s will not be on our list next year.

At 4am we stopped at Sports Authority to get our free gift cards and pick up a few things, then over to Dicks Sporting Goods and Target. This brought us to just before 7am and we were dead tired and headed home to sleep.

So…onto the good stuff. What did I get.

Black Friday 2011

After shopping for nearly 11 hours straight, Friday was for resting and relaxing in the backyard which is exactly what we did. I also think a Big Bang Theory marathon happened in there as well.

Backyard View

I’ll be around the house for most of my vacation, but I did decide to ‘get away’ for Saturday night and stayed at a beautiful Marriott in San Diego for the night. I arrived just in time to watch the sunset over the Marina from the balcony.

San Diego Marina

I wandered around downtown for a bit, relaxed, read, and got some writing done. It was a really great evening and then I got to hang with my best friend sister for a few hours on Sunday. Monday was all about unpacking, running errands, and hanging out with this little guy who was exhausted from playing with my moms pups.

So while I can’t say I got anything done around the house lately, I have had a great week so far and can’t wait to jump back into regular blogging and house projects over the next few days.

Girls Shopping Day at The Forum, San Diego

This past weekend I had the chance to spend some quality time with my momma. Even though we talk nearly everyday, we only get to see each other about once a month, so it was fun to hang out. It was also a treat to visit my favorite shopping center in San Diego.

Now, this center is not the biggest out there, but it has the best stores and atmosphere, in my opinion. The Forum is located in Carlsbad and always has front row parking (a very special thing indeed).

The day actually started at JoAnn’s, where I picked up the fabric for two different projects that should be posted in the next few weeks. Next up we stopped at the bookstore and Michael’s, just to browse. It happen to be raining on Sunday, and the entire populate of northern San Diego was out shopping so we hopped in the car and headed to our next stop.

We scored front row parking and stopped at all our favorite stores.

Forum_Parking PIC Revised

  • Coldwater Creek
  • Anthropologie (my personal favorite)
  • ULTA
  • Sur La Table
  • Z Gallerie
  • Ann Taylor Loft

Lululemon_Forum Pic Revised

They have plenty of other popular stores. The center is relaxed, near the ocean, and just plain awesome. Some of the stores we didn’t go into, but are pretty damn cool:

  • Lululemon
  • MAC
  • Victoria’s Secret
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • White House/Black Market

They also have a dozen smaller, lesser known stores, and several restaurants.

ZGallerie_ForumPIC Revised

Honestly  I think I love this center because it reminds me of a shopping center I love in Newport Beach, only far less crowded. If only it was closer to me, I would be in heaven.

(I’ll be back later today to share my new workout program, and how I’m doing on the goal of losing 10 lbs this month. Hint: I’m crushing it so far!)

What I Want Now – October Edition

New Washing Machine & Dryer

Let me clarify, I don’t actually want a new washer and dryer (well, maybe a little). However, my appliances are rebelling. First the air conditioner and now the Washing Machine is broken. It’s a cheapo that came with the house, and fixing it will cost several hundred dollars. I still need to do some research, but I think it might be smarter to replace them than to fix the issue.

Vintage Book iPod Dock (Etsy) ~$50

This Etsy seller turns stunning vintage (and vintage looking) books into working iPod docks. It’s rather ingenious and would look so cool on a bookshelf or nightstand.

Recycled Bedside Water Carafe $44

Oh all the uses I could find for this glassware. It’s chunky and smooth, lovely in every way. I could see myself using these to serve OJ in the morning, or as vase for fresh cut flowers, or fancy up the vodka at a dinner party.

Moleskine Laptop Case $45-55 (Depending on size)

For anyone that loves the traditional Moleskine notebooks, this is for you. Maybe it’s all the amazing writers that have used these notebooks in the past, but just owning one makes me feel more eloquent & artistic. It’s a very classy way to carry your notebook, and would make a great gift for that stylish person in your life.

Exeter 16-Jar Pendant $319

Rustic lighting makes me swoon, and this is no exception. I really adore this fixture, even though I’d be hard pressed to actually pay $300 for it. Especially since there are so many tutorials out there to make them yourself (hint hint)

Exeter 16-Jar Pendant, Galvanized Metal finish

Decorative Pumpkin with Lights $39-79

I can’t help but throw a little Fall inspired decor in this post. These lighted pumpkins are so very cool and would look great throughout the holiday season. (you can also find them at Pier One)

What I Want Now – September

MP3 Alarm Clock Docking Station and Speaker  $59.95

Is this not the coolest alarm clock. Both modern and retro, I love this! I’m considering putting one in my bedroom as well as the guest bedroom.

 fez collection platter, 13”   $29.99

I’m currently styling my Master Bedroom with a Moroccan theme. I’m thinking this would be amazing on the wall or as a table top. I could see a collection of jewelry and perfumes on this tray. Unfortunately after I purchased both the Fez Tray and Platter from West Elm, they informed me that they are both out of stock. This makes me very VERY sad.

Fez Collection Platter, 13"

Minka Aire Traditional Concept 44 Ceiling Fan  $249.99

Our weather lately has been over 100 degrees. I constantly use my air conditioner, but having a fan in each bedroom, and the office, would be a thing of luxury in this heat. I like this model, because it’s sleek and sculptural. It doesn’t look like the tacky ceiling fans you typically see.

Vintage 1960s Olympia Socialite Portable Typewriter  Sold (but check ETSY for others)

I work for a company that sells phones/computers that can fit into the palm of my hand and all I want is a Typewriter…go figure. This specific typewriter has already been sold but I still stare at it daily. I also found a few others through Etsy that I’m eyeing, so I may own one…or three soon :::fingers crossed:::

Bubbled Beverage Dispenser $298

Good grief this thing is expensive for a drink dispenser, but it’s so lovely. I can picture ice cold lemonade, sangria, or even apple cider on a cool evening. Simple stunning.

Arcadia Extension Dining Table (World Market $699)

If you didn’t see my proclamation of love for this table on this post, then you should check it out. Needless to say I LOVE this table, and will hopefully own it very very soon.

I don’t believe you can purchase the table online right now, but it should still be available in stores.

Dear Santa,

I know it’s only September, but these are all on my list. I’ve been very VERY good this year (like “please cram that dining table under the Christmas Tree” good!)

Fun Finds

I wasn’t going to post again today, but I found some very cool things while out shopping this weekend that I wanted to share. For anyone that doesn’t know me personally, my taste is a little eclectic. I love traditional items but with a little twist, something that makes them unique. These all fit the bill.

Vacu Vin ‘Party People’ Glass Markers (Homegoods $5)

These are little rubber icons that suction to the glass so you can tell your drinks apart. I’ve always seen the wine glass stem rings and chalk board labels, but these are by far the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. They are by a company called Vacu Vin, glass markers are called ‘Party People’. I also found them at Amazon for about the same price.

Arcadia Dining Table (WorldMarket $699)

I have not actually purchased this yet, but I finally found my new dining room table. I’ve been looking for the right dining room table for months. Everything was either too big or too small, too round, or too square. How can something be too square, well it just can. But this is perfect in a, I sat in the store for almost an hour swooning over it and taking secret pictures with my cell phone so I could show people. Is it weird that I show pictures of my future dining room table, like some people share picture of their kids?

No, I don’t think so.

The table, 4 chairs and a a bench is going to cost a pretty penny, so I don’t know how soon I’ll buy it, but hopefully she can be all mine very VERY soon.

Arcadia Dining Table, World Market

Black Ceramic Stovetop Rice Pot (World Market $20)

Little Black Ceramic Pot, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Your Dishwasher, Oven, Microwave, and Stovetop safe. What? Yes, I said stovetop! Most of these types of pots are safe for dishwasher, oven, and microwave, but never Stovetop. It’s called a rice pot, but I plan on cooking everything in here from now on.

Stovetop safe Black Ceramic Rice Pot, World Market

Various Teas (World Market $Varies)

I have a somewhat weird affection for Chai. In 2009, while on a California Coast Road Trip, I stopped at a little coffee shop and ordered a Mocha Chai. It was essentially hot chocolate and chai tea, but in reality it was heaven. If you’re ever in Morro Bay, CA then you need to stop at Top Dog Coffee Bar. Just trust me on this.

While roaming at World Market (before swooning over my new table), I found some fun tea to try.

Coconut Cocoa

Vanilla Chai Black Tea

Coconut Rum Green Tea

Tea, Coconut Cocoa, Vanilla Chai Black, Coconut Rum Green Tea

I also found Chai Tea Spice Torani Syrup. Top Dog is a good 4 hours from me, and I can’t find a coffee shop that makes Mocha Chai, so the closest I’ve found is a Cafe Mocha with 2 pumps Chai (Or a hot chocolate with chai if you don’t want coffee). Now that I have found Chai syrup,I can make my own.

Take that coffee shops…I don’t need you! (Except for you Top Dog…and Starbucks. That Mocha Coconut Frap is delicious)

Torani Chai Tea Spice Syrup

Ok, I’ll stop now.

What fun stuff have you bought lately?

When did I become ‘Vintage’?

A few days ago, I roamed around a huge Antique mall near my house. We have a ‘famous’ (to us) antiquing street, but this warehouse was the only place I stopped on this trip. I ended up walking around for about 2 hours and still hadn’t seen half of it. It was so big that I had to ask for directions on how to find the cash register before I left. Definitely going to go back soon.

It felt a bit awkward taking pictures since there were a lot of people and the aisles were tight. But I was able to snap a few.

Temecula Antique Shop

I really wanted to bring these apple boxes home, but I didn’t want to pay the $18 each.

Vintage Apple Crates

So much random stuff, but those green shutters were kinda cool.

Temecula Antique Shop

One of the great things about this store is that as a seller you get a little booth to decorate with your items. You get to price them which means you can compete with other booths. There were many booths that had the same thing, but I wandered around looking for the best prices.

I did pick up a few jars that I LOVE, but I actually left the store feeling somewhat depressed. I saw so many things in the store that I played with as a kid. Since when do toys from 30 years ago become an antique, huh? I’m not sure how I feel about being Vintage. I walked around the store saying, ‘Hey! I had that!”

I feel old.

But then I went to Homegoods and all was right with the world again.

How cool is this bulletin board/hanging rack. I have no place in my house for it, but it was a great piece.

HomeGoods Paris Pin Board/Rack

…but i almost fainted at this piece. How stunning is that rug?

Homegoods Rug

I left without the rug ::tear:: If it had only been a bit smaller I would have grabbed it up.

These are the jars I fell for at the antique shop. I had to bring them home.

Vintage Ball Jars

Love them!
